Question: My son and his finance announced to us (on Christmas Eve) that noone under 16 will be invited to the wedding reception. Now here is the problem - MY future daughter in law has no cousins younger than herself. My son however is one of the oldest children in his side of the family. Add into the mix the fact that they have chosen to hold the wedding near her home in New Jersey. Our side of the family entirely will be traveling long distances from out of town to attend. By them not permitting children under 16 to the reception, they have eliminated:
a)the youngest child of my brother-in-law who will be 14, (her sister will have just turned 16). This brother-in-law will be traveling over 6 hours to the wedding and will be bringing my 82 year old mother-in-law. WIthout the 14 YO, I am sure that none of them will attend.
b) the youngest of 6 kids of my sister-in-law ( SHe will be 14 as well) and without her, my sister in law and my son's cousins will not be attending either ( 6 hours away also.)
c) Numerous other relatives that would normally have made the trip will be insulted and not attend. LEaving our side of the family, with no one attending our son's wedding.
My wife and I have offered to pay for these two meals ourselves since it is an upscale wedding. My son and FDIL don't seem to care. HELP!!!
