QUESTION
From: Wedding Palace Visitor
Subject:
Question: I have an important question that many people seem to ask but never really get answered. The answer always seems to be an individuals’ opinion instead of realistic advice. These days, many, MANY, people are re-marrying. My soon to be husband and I are joining our families in a joyous celebration. Our invitations are being worded from our children, which is a really nice touch to have them included. We have everything in the world that we could possibly need. We are going to have a money tree (for our honeymoon plans) at the reception, and we want to include this on the invitations. Personally, if I received a wedding invitation, there are two reasons that I would much rather know in advance if the couple is not in need of household gifts, but rather money. The first, I don't have to go shopping for a gift. The second, I can buy a card and have the cash ready when I go to the reception instead of getting there and then realizing I have to turn around and go the nearest ATM machine. In this fast paced world and days of re-marriage, I think that 'breach of etiquette' needs to be revisited. I have talked to SO many people that say what we are doing is fine, and that they would absolutely NOT be insulted by 'money tree' wording on an invitation. They said they would much rather know in advance of the money tree than have to worry about figuring out where someone is registered and then buying a gift. If there is anyone out there that could please just give us an open-minded wording suggestion instead of a ‘Molly-manners’ answer, we (and MANY others) would certainly appreciate it. For now, the wording we are planning on using is as follows: “The most important thing you can give to our parents is your presence at their wedding. If you still wish to give a gift, a money tree will be available at the reception.” Thank you.
