RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: Hello Tracy, Unfortunately, to invite guests to an event then ask them to pay for their meal is a major breach of etiquette. The socially acceptable way to handle the situation is to serve cake and coffee and perhaps a few appetizers after the ceremony. You do not have to serve a meal to consider it a reception. After most of the guests leave, then you and your immediate family members might have dinner together at each persons expense if the family members suggest it. You shouldnt suggest that your guests pay for anything.
