RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: Hi Connie, When you are unable to invite people to the wedding, but you want them to know that you got married, you send out announcements after the wedding has occurred. You can do an internet search for 'wedding announcements' and find samples.

An announcement is simply a communication tool; there is no expectation that the recipient will send a gift or even a card, but it is courteous to let extended family and friends know you got married rather than having them find out months after the fact.
