RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: Hello Diane, Unfortunately money trees are controversial and can offend guests and then they wont give anything. From an etiquette perspective, gifts should not be mentioned in an invitation. Guests are not obligated to give a gift, particularly when it is a reception only. The way to handle the issue is to not mention gifts, then when people ask where the couple is registered or what they need, you can verbally tell them that the couple doesnt need anything and would prefer money. That way, if guests choose to give money, they can place it in a card before they come.
