RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: Hello Shelli, There are no 'rules' of etiquette stating that the godparents pay for any part of a wedding. Today, even the parents of the couple are not required to help with the costs of the wedding. Rather, it is the responsibility of the bride and groom to pay for their wedding.

If you have been asked to pay for the cake, that may be because it is a tradition in someones family, but you are certainly not required to pay for it unless you want to and can afford to. If you do choose to pay for it, you get to decide on the cost, not the bride and groom, or you can give them money toward the cost of the cake and they can pay the balance.
