RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: Not really. Your guests are not obligated to help finance the wedding and it is a breach of etiquette to mention gifts or money trees in the invitation. Therefore, you can have a money tree present at the reception, but you shouldnt draw attention to it. Guests will see it and give if they choose to.

One issue with money trees is the temptation for guests and staff working at the wedding to help themselves to some of what they see hanging on the tree. It is very easy to slip a few bills into a pocket quickly. If you decide to have a money tree, dont expect to get much money. If you get $100, you will be fortunate.
