RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: What do the two of you really want to do? If you take the time to sit down and really talk through the pros and cons of having a private wedding versus having a large one at home, you will be better able to make a decision. Things to think about are: The cost - a destination wedding for the two of you will cost much less than a large wedding with all of the frills.
Do you like crowds? If the two of you are shy or introverted, you may be miserable being the center of attention for days.
Will you be able to plan your wedding or will you be expected to allow the mothers and others to have much in-put. Just think of the moving 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' to understand some of the things that can happen when your desires and opinions are not respected.

Ultimately, the decison is yours and it is your wedding. If you would prefer a destinatin wedding, and you are paying for it, then do what is right for the two of you. Your parents will forgive you in time, though they may be disappointed initially.
