RESPONSE
From: Tooman
Response: I agree with Gail. You should view the portfolios of the photographers you are interested in hiring. Also consider their personalities. They will be there for several hours telling people what to do. You want to be sure that the person is friendly, patient, creative, and will act like a professional at all times.

Do ask for references and check them. Also ask your coordinator, florist, caterer, etc. who they like to work with. These merchants see the photographer on the job and behind the scenes, so they see another side of their personalities. In most communities, the pool of merchants who do weddings is not large, so other merchants may also know things like who is having financial problems or health issues and may not be in business when your wedding occurs.
