Fruit trays are always a nice compliment with about any buffet. Some grocery stores to nice ones, also check out delis and restaurants. Rolls or breadsticks should be added. It is easy to get creative with bread, check a local bakery.
Depending on what time of year and time of day your wedding is also impact your decision for side dishes.
A couple hints, cold food is less expensive and easier to serve i.e., finger sandwiches. Call a few caterers and restaurants and ask to speak with their catering department. Tell them the specific dollar amount you are willing to spend and how many guests you are expecting and ask them what they can do. I am constantly surprised how well this works. Most caterers want your business and will bend over backward to work within your budget.
Another way to save is to ask the food to just be dropped off and have some friends to all the set up and serving of the food.
Hope this helps and best of luck to you.
